Brick and Mortar

You won’t get in.
Go ahead, try: push and shove.
Determined to cross the line?
You won’t get by.
The walls are in place;
built by your lies;
solidly set in brick and mortar
to protect the precious gift inside.
You can say you love me.
You can want to hold me.
You can even miss me.
Your lips move and I am deaf.
I will never let you close enough
to break down what experience built.
You can’t get by:
the key is lost;
tossed carelessly aside
by your own selfishness and deceit.
You won’t be able to climb so high
as to see over the walls.
So you can try.
You can push and shove and cry.
But you’ll never get inside.
